Captioning & Alt-Text Requirements

1. Purpose

Friendium is committed to providing an inclusive experience for users with visual, auditory, cognitive, and neurological disabilities. Captioning and alt-text are essential accessibility mechanisms that allow content to be understood by assistive technologies and users who cannot perceive media in its original form.

This policy establishes minimum standards for creators, page owners, advertisers, and businesses when publishing media content on Friendium.

2. Scope of Application

This policy applies to all content types hosted or distributed on Friendium, including but not limited to:

• Profile photos and cover images
• Photos and image galleries
• Videos, live streams, and recorded broadcasts
• Stories, short-form clips, and reels
• Advertisements and sponsored media
• Event media and shared external embeds

3. Alt-Text Requirements for Images

Alt-text is a textual description of an image that enables screen readers and assistive technologies to convey the image’s meaning.

Where available, Friendium encourages users to provide accurate, concise, and meaningful alt-text that:

• Describes the primary subject and context of the image
• Avoids redundant phrases such as “image of” or “picture showing”
• Includes relevant text visible within the image
• Excludes speculation or assumptions about identity or intent

4. Automated Alt-Text

Friendium may generate automated alt-text using machine-learning systems when user-provided descriptions are not available.

Automated alt-text:

• Is provided as a best-effort accessibility aid
• May be incomplete or inaccurate
• Does not replace user responsibility for accuracy

Friendium disclaims liability for errors or omissions in automated descriptions.

5. Captioning Requirements for Video Content

Captions provide textual representation of spoken dialogue and relevant non-verbal audio cues. Friendium strongly encourages captions for all video content and may require captions for certain categories.

Captions should:

• Accurately reflect spoken words
• Include meaningful sound cues where relevant
• Be synchronized with the audio track
• Use clear and readable language

6. Live Content & Real-Time Limitations

Live video and real-time broadcasts may present technical challenges for immediate captioning. Friendium may offer:

• Automated real-time captions where supported
• Post-event captioning tools
• Creator-uploaded caption files

Friendium does not guarantee real-time caption accuracy for live content.

7. Advertisements & Commercial Content

Advertisers and business users are responsible for ensuring that promotional content complies with accessibility requirements.

Failure to provide captions or alt-text where required may result in:

• Ad rejection or removal
• Limited distribution
• Suspension of advertising privileges

8. Prohibited Alt-Text & Caption Practices

The following practices are prohibited:

• Misleading or intentionally deceptive descriptions
• Use of alt-text to insert keywords, hashtags, or spam
• Harassing, hateful, or abusive descriptions
• Disclosure of sensitive personal data

9. Moderation & Enforcement

Alt-text and captions are treated as user-generated content and are subject to all applicable Friendium policies.

Violations may result in:

• Content removal
• Accessibility feature restrictions
• Account warnings or enforcement actions

10. Legal & Regulatory Considerations

Friendium aligns its accessibility practices with recognized standards, including WCAG 2.1, where reasonably practicable.

This policy does not constitute a legal guarantee of compliance in all jurisdictions and is subject to local legal interpretation.

11. User Responsibility

Users remain solely responsible for the accuracy, legality, and appropriateness of captions and alt-text they provide.

Accessibility features are provided on an “as available” basis and may vary by device, region, or content type.
