Direct Messaging Safety Policy

This policy explains how Direct Messages (DMs) work on Vibble, which protections apply, and how we reduce risks related to harassment, spam, fraud, and unwanted contact.

1. Purpose & Scope

Direct Messages are designed for private, consent-based communication between users on Vibble. Because DMs can carry sensitive information, we apply specific safeguards to protect users from harassment, scams, exploitation, and abuse while still preserving privacy and free expression.

This policy applies to all private messaging features on Vibble, including:

  • One-to-one DMs
  • Group conversations
  • Message requests from non-followers (where enabled)

2. Default Messaging Settings

To promote safety by default, Vibble may apply the following defaults (configurable by the user):

  • Only followers or approved contacts can DM by default
  • Messages from unknown accounts go into “Message Requests” with limited preview
  • Media from unknown senders may be blurred until the user taps or approves
  • Accounts flagged for abuse or spam are limited in their ability to send DMs

3. Prohibited DM Content

Users may not send the following via DMs:

  • Threats of violence, harassment, stalking, or coordinated abuse
  • Sexual content involving minors or grooming behaviors
  • Non-consensual sexual advances or explicit sexual harassment
  • Fraud, phishing attempts, or financial scams
  • Malware, malicious links, or deceptive downloads
  • Doxxing content or sharing private data without consent

Severe violations (e.g., CSAM, credible threats) may result in immediate suspension and reporting to law enforcement where legally required.

4. Limited Use of Automated Safety Systems

To detect and reduce harmful behavior, Vibble uses limited automated systems on DMs, focused on:

  • Spam and malware detection (URLs, known malicious patterns)
  • High-volume abusive messaging patterns
  • Child-safety signals and grooming indicators (where permitted by law)

Vibble does not use DM scanning for targeted advertising and aims to minimize intrusiveness, while still complying with safety and legal obligations.

5. User Controls & Safety Tools

Users can control DM interactions through:

  • Settings to restrict who can send them DMs
  • Blocking or muting specific accounts
  • Turning off message requests entirely
  • Auto-filtering suspicious or low-quality requests into a separate folder

6. Reporting Harmful Messages

Users can report abusive or suspicious DMs directly from the conversation. Reports are reviewed by trained moderators and may result in:

  • Warnings or restrictions for the sender
  • Temporary or permanent DM bans
  • Full account suspension or termination
  • Escalation to law enforcement for serious threats or child-safety issues

7. Children & Teen Safety in DMs

For minors, additional DM limitations may apply, such as:

  • Stricter controls on who can contact them
  • Automatic filtering of adult contacts or suspicious patterns
  • Increased detection for grooming or exploitative behavior

8. Enforcement & Appeals

DM-related violations are handled under Vibble’s enforcement framework and Warning & Ban System. Users may appeal enforcement decisions via the Appeals process if they believe an error occurred.
