Memorialized & Legacy Accounts Policy

1. Purpose & Guiding Principles

Friendium recognizes that user accounts may remain meaningful to family, friends, and communities after a user’s death. This policy establishes a structured framework for preserving memories, preventing misuse, and respecting legal and ethical obligations.

Our guiding principles include:

• Respect for the deceased and their digital legacy
• Protection of privacy and personal data
• Prevention of impersonation, fraud, or misuse
• Compliance with inheritance, privacy, and data-protection laws
• Clear processes for families and authorized representatives

2. Definition of Memorialized Accounts

A memorialized account is an account that has been formally designated as belonging to a deceased individual and placed into a restricted state by Friendium.

Once memorialized:

• The account is frozen from new activity
• No new posts, messages, or interactions may occur
• Login access is permanently disabled
• The account serves solely as a digital remembrance space

3. Eligibility for Memorialization

Memorialization requests may be submitted by:

• Immediate family members
• Legal guardians or executors
• Authorized representatives with valid documentation

Friendium does not accept memorialization requests without reasonable verification of death.

4. Required Documentation

To prevent abuse, Friendium may require one or more of the following:

• Death certificate or official government record
• Obituary or funeral notice
• Proof of relationship or legal authority
• Valid government-issued identification

5. Account Behavior After Memorialization

Memorialized accounts are subject to the following restrictions:

• No private messages may be sent or received
• No friend requests or connections may be added
• No content edits or deletions by third parties
• No algorithmic promotion or recommendation

Existing content remains visible according to the deceased user’s original privacy settings.

6. Legacy Account Options

Where supported by law, Friendium may offer limited legacy options:

• Profile designation as “In Memoriam”
• Control over tribute visibility
• Request for account removal
• Preservation of public posts

Legacy access does not grant login credentials or direct account control.

7. Prohibited Actions on Memorialized Accounts

The following actions are strictly prohibited:

• Logging into the account using the deceased user’s credentials
• Posting on behalf of the deceased
• Using the account for advocacy, advertising, or political activity
• Altering profile identity or history
• Impersonating the deceased user

8. Fraud & Impersonation Protection

Memorialized accounts are closely monitored to prevent:

• Identity theft
• Romance scams
• Financial fraud
• Misuse of emotional trust

Any detected misuse may result in immediate enforcement action.

9. Content Review & Removal Requests

Family members or legal representatives may request:

• Removal of specific content
• Limitation of visibility
• Full account deletion

Requests are evaluated case-by-case, balancing privacy, expression, and legal requirements.

10. Account Deletion After Death

In some jurisdictions, families may request permanent deletion of a deceased user’s account. Deletion requests must comply with applicable inheritance and privacy laws.

11. Cultural & Regional Sensitivities

Friendium acknowledges that death and memorial practices vary across cultures. Where possible, Friendium aims to respect local customs and legal frameworks.

12. Law Enforcement & Legal Requests

Access to deceased users’ data may be granted only where legally required and subject to strict review under Friendium’s Law Enforcement Request Guide.

13. Appeals & Disputes

Disputes over memorialization, deletion, or legacy status may be appealed by authorized parties. Friendium may require additional documentation to resolve conflicts.
