Self-Harm & Suicide Prevention Policy

1. Purpose & Principles

ReelCiety recognizes that self-harm and suicide are complex public-health issues. Content that encourages or normalizes self-harm can create contagion effects and increase risk, particularly among minors and vulnerable individuals. This policy is grounded in harm-reduction, compassion, and prevention, and aligns with international best practices and Nexa-Group safety standards.

2. Scope

This policy applies to all user-generated content, including images, videos, audio, captions, comments, live streams, direct messages, hashtags, challenges, and AI-generated media posted on ReelCiety.

3. Definitions

• Self-harm: Intentional injury to one’s body without suicidal intent.
• Suicidal behavior: Thoughts, plans, attempts, or actions intended to cause death.
• Recovery content: Content focused on healing, coping strategies, or seeking help.

4. Prohibited Content

The following content is strictly prohibited:

• Explicit depictions of self-harm or suicide attempts.
• Instructions, tips, or encouragement for self-harm or suicide.
• Romanticizing, glorifying, or aestheticizing self-harm.
• Challenges or trends promoting dangerous behavior.
• Content encouraging others to harm themselves.

5. Restricted & Limited Content

Certain content may be restricted, downranked, or placed behind warning screens:

• Non-graphic references to past self-harm experiences.
• Artistic or symbolic representations that may be triggering.
• Discussions of suicidal ideation without encouragement.

Such content may be limited to adult audiences and excluded from recommendations.

6. Allowed & Supported Content

ReelCiety allows and supports recovery-oriented and educational content when shared responsibly:

• Personal recovery stories emphasizing help and healing.
• Mental-health education and prevention resources.
• Encouragement to seek professional or peer support.

7. Detection & Intervention

ReelCiety uses a combination of automated detection and trained human reviewers to identify high-risk content. When credible risk is detected, we may:

• Remove or restrict the content.
• Send supportive in-app messages encouraging help-seeking.
• Display crisis hotline information based on user location.
• Escalate cases to specialized safety teams.

8. Live Content & Emergency Escalation

Live broadcasts presenting imminent risk may be interrupted or terminated immediately. Where legally permitted, credible threats may be escalated to emergency services through Nexa-Group’s Emergency Response protocols.

9. Reporting Tools

Any user may report self-harm related content. Reports are prioritized for rapid review. Abuse of reporting tools may result in enforcement actions.

10. Enforcement Actions

Depending on severity and intent, enforcement may include content removal, account warnings, temporary suspensions, or permanent bans. Safety interventions prioritize protection over punishment.

11. Privacy & Data Handling

Information related to self-harm incidents is handled with heightened confidentiality and accessed only by authorized safety personnel, consistent with privacy laws.

12. Resources & Support

ReelCiety provides access to regional crisis resources, including suicide prevention hotlines, mental-health services, and trusted third-party organizations.

13. Policy Review & Updates

This policy is reviewed regularly to incorporate medical guidance, regulatory changes, and platform learnings. Continued use of ReelCiety constitutes acceptance of updates.
