Media Labeling Disclosure Policy

This policy explains how Vibble applies media labels — including state-affiliated, government-funded, automated content, parody, manipulated media, and contextual labels — to ensure transparency, protect public understanding, and reduce the risk of misinformation.

1. Purpose of Media Labeling

Media labels provide critical context to users by identifying entities or content types that may influence public perception. Labels help users understand:

  • Who produced the content
  • Whether automation or AI was involved
  • Whether a government or political body influences the account
  • If the content contains manipulated or misleading elements
  • If a post requires additional public context or clarification

Labels do not inherently penalize content but may influence visibility or engagement features.

2. Types of Media Labels

Vibble applies several categories of labels:

  • State-Affiliated Media – Outlets where the state controls editorial direction.
  • Government-Funded Media – Funded by government but with independent editorial control.
  • Government-Controlled Media – Direct oversight or governance by state entities.
  • Automated / Bot Account – High levels of non-human posting activity.
  • AI-Generated or Manipulated Media – Synthetic or significantly altered content.
  • Public Interest Labels – Applied to civic or political content requiring context.
  • Satire or Parody Labels – For accounts that mimic real individuals or organizations for comedic purposes.

3. State-Affiliated & Government-Controlled Media Labeling

Vibble aligns with international standards for identifying state-linked media. Labeling is applied when:

  • The state exerts control over editorial output
  • Funding is tied to political interests or directives
  • Ownership structures compromise journalistic independence
  • Media operations are used for state influence campaigns

Labels are accompanied by info panels explaining the nature of the affiliation.

4. Automated & Bot Activity Labels

Accounts that exhibit patterns of automated behavior — such as high-frequency posting, non-human engagement patterns, or API-driven message generation — may receive an automated activity label.

This label is disclosed on the profile and individual posts where applicable.

5. Manipulated or AI-Generated Media Labels

Posts containing synthetic, altered, or deepfake media are labeled when:

  • AI was used to generate or alter a person's likeness
  • Audio has been synthetically cloned or manipulated
  • Footage has been edited to misrepresent events
  • Images are generated or heavily altered using AI tools

Labels include links to more information about manipulated media risks.

6. Public Interest & Context Labels

When posts relate to elections, major crises, civic processes, or political debates, Vibble may apply contextual labels to prevent misunderstanding and promote informed engagement.

These labels may include:

  • “This post contains disputed information”
  • “Additional context is available”
  • “Election-related content”
  • “Crisis information: see official sources”

7. Satire, Parody & Fan Account Labels

Accounts that replicate names or branding of real people, public figures, or institutions must clearly disclose parody or fan status. Vibble may apply labels such as:

  • “Parody Account”
  • “Fan Account — Not Affiliated”

This prevents confusion and impersonation risks.

8. How Labels Affect Visibility

Some labels serve informational purposes only. Others may trigger:

  • Reduced recommendation in Explore or algorithmic feeds
  • Restricted eligibility for monetization
  • Removal from trending topics and search highlights
  • Limited engagements (e.g., no reposts or quote-posts for misleading content)

These measures limit harm while maintaining informational access.

9. Enforcement for Mislabeled or Deceptive Accounts

Violating media labeling rules may result in:

  • Mandatory correction or disclosure
  • Temporary account restrictions
  • Removal of verification status
  • Shadowbans or reduced reach
  • Permanent suspension for persistent deception

10. Appeals

Users may appeal media labels if they believe:

  • The label is incorrect
  • The affiliation or ownership structure has changed
  • Automation detection has produced false positives
  • Content was misclassified as manipulated

Appeals are reviewed by integrity specialists.

11. Transparency & Auditing

Vibble may publish aggregate data regarding:

  • Total accounts with media labels
  • Distribution and enforcement trends
  • Classification updates

Independent audits may be conducted where applicable.

12. Updates to This Policy

This policy may be updated as global media regulations evolve, or as new manipulation technologies and risks emerge.
