Public Interest Labels Policy

This policy explains when Vibble applies public-interest labels or context notices to posts, and how those labels interact with enforcement, reach, and user rights.

1. Purpose of Public Interest Labels

Public interest labels are used to provide additional context on posts that may affect civic participation, safety, or democratic processes. Instead of full removal, Vibble may choose to:

  • Add explanatory labels.
  • Limit reach while preserving public access.
  • Link to reliable information sources.

2. When Labels May Be Applied

Labels may be attached to posts from any account (including verified and government accounts) in scenarios such as:

  • Election-related claims that are misleading or incomplete.
  • Health or crisis information lacking sufficient context.
  • Content that violates certain rules but is retained due to newsworthiness.
  • Statements by public figures that may influence public safety or civic processes.

3. Types of Public Interest Labels

  • Election Context: Links to official electoral information and deadlines.
  • Health & Safety Context: Links to authoritative public health resources.
  • Crisis & Disaster Context: Clarifications during wars, attacks, or natural disasters.
  • Disputed / Partially Misleading: Notices that credible sources dispute the content.
  • Satire / Parody: Labels clarifying satirical nature where misinterpretation risk is high.

4. Interaction with Enforcement

In some cases, Vibble may both:

  • Apply a public-interest label; and
  • Restrict sharing, replies, or amplification of the labeled content.

In other cases, content may still be removed completely if it crosses clear safety or legal thresholds (e.g., calls for violence, explicit incitement, or child endangerment).

5. User Experience & Controls

Users may see:

  • Prominent banners or overlays explaining why a post has been labeled.
  • Click-through interstitials requiring confirmation before viewing or sharing.
  • Links to additional information or fact-checking resources.

6. Appeals & Corrections

Users may appeal public-interest labels where they believe they are incorrect or outdated. Vibble may update or remove labels as new information emerges or circumstances change.

7. Governance & Oversight

Public-interest labeling criteria are periodically reviewed by internal safety, policy, and legal teams, with input from external experts where possible. Significant changes may be documented in the Transparency Report and Algorithmic Accountability Policy.
